CRTG uses intelligent systems to build underwater tunnel

The China Railway Tunnel Group (CRTG) has installed eight intelligent systems for the construction of China's deepest underwater tunnel with the highest water pressure on the Shenzhen – Jiangmen high-speed rail (HSR) line section. The systems are responsible for intelligent tunnelling, segment assembly, coordination, diagnosis, monitoring, component production, material management, and ventilation. The line connects the cities of Shenzhen and Jiangmen in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and comprises a 9.2 km main tunnel and a 1.2 km inclined shaft. The intelligent systems improve the efficiency and safety of tunnelling and are supported by a management platform that enables real-time monitoring and big data analysis. CRTG uses tools such as neural networks and machine learning to optimise tunnel construction and proactively counter risks.
